Elijah’s new skills are appearing at an alarming rate these days. I remember “back in the day” when we could sit and watch him do _________ for hours or days and talk about how great it was that he learned _________ so quickly. Now he’s going through skills like diapers and piling on two or three or more new things a day. It’s so bad that Amanda has to text me shorthand to keep up sometimes.
What’s worse – or better depending – is that HE knows he’s piling on the tricks and has decided to try them in different combination to see which ones go best, or loudest together. So for instance he’s learned clapping by which he pounds his hands on whatever is in front of him. He’s also learned to hold his sippy cup, though he hasn’t figured out “upright”, so we end up with pounding sippy cup. He also loves to “vocalize” with his mouth wide open while learning about solid foods. Upside-down time while drinking, no problem. upside-down while trying to crawl. Sure!
Eventually he may merge skills in more conventional ways; but through the chaos its fun to think we may have an artist in training.
